   Born in Vitré, Pierre Landais, a valet of the wardrobe to François ii, duke of Brittany, gained the duke's confidence and became treasurer and receiver-general of Brittany. He signed commercial agreements with Spain, Portugal, England, and the Hanseatic cities and favored the establishment of silk and tapestry workshops. He wanted to arrange a marriage between the duc d'orléans and the heiress to the duchy of Brittany, with the aim of uniting Brittany with the kingdom of France. in doing so, he alienated the Breton nobles, was accused of embezzlement and murder, and abandoned by the duke, was executed.
